heisman

It's time for Week 2 of the Bloguin Heisman Poll, and already it's shaping up to be another compelling race for the most coveted trophy in collegiate athletics...unless of course your name is Reggie Bush. Already two favorites have clearly identified themselves, and would you have believed at the start of the season they would both be quarterbacks from the Big Ten?  So who's #1, Shoelace or TP?  And who's hot on their heels ready to track them down?

Here is what you'll see each week in the Bloguin Heisman Poll as a reminder:
-The Top 5 total votegetters and quotes from bloggers in support of their candidates.
-A list of all players that receive votes in the Bloguin Heisman Poll
-Poll Notes that look at some of the interesting facts, figures, and trends of the poll.
-The BHP Roll Call of voters and the links to their respective blogs.

Without any further adieu, the 3rd edition of the Bloguin Heisman Poll...

1) Denard Robinson (QB-Michigan) - 60 Points, 41.67%, 17 1st Place Votes
Last Week: 24/40, 244 yards, 1TD; 28 rush, 258 yards, 2TD  This Week: vs. UMass
michigan_notre_dame_football.sff_45877_team
* A lot of people continue to forget that awards and rankings are based not off preseason predictions or assumptions of what will happen next, but what has actually happened during the season. Denard Robinson has played better then any other player in college football this season by a mile. Which is why he is my frontrunner in my Heisman rankings.
-ACC Rivals

* After dominating UConn in week 1, Shoelace one upped himself with 502 total yards and three touchdowns in the comeback win over the Golden Domers. If he continues at this pace, he might run away with the Heisman as a true sophomore.
-Ian Bethune, Sox & Dawgs

* The sophomore who doesn't tie his shoes may single handedly save Rich Rodriguez's job. Rich Rod is fortunate to have the most exciting player in college football right now running his offense. Do you think Ohio State fans are starting to worry a little?
-Tom Perry,  Eye and Eer Blog

2) Terrelle Pryor (QB-Ohio State) - 38 Points, 26.39%, 5 1st Place Votes
Last week: 12/27, 233 yards, 1TD; 20 rush, 113 yards, 1TD  Next Week: vs. Ohio
terrelle-pryor-p1
* For better or worse, the Heisman Trophy gets awarded to the best player on the best team. That player at the moment is Terrelle Pryor.  While TP might not have played flawlessly against Miami, he is the reason the Bucks are slowly overcoming their big game jinx.  As long as he continues to limit his mistakes, he might waltz to the award.  While I'm in awe of Robinson's athleticism, Pryor will have much bigger moments to shine than a September scrimmage against an average Notre Dame team.
-Matt Yoder, Randall Simon's Sausages

* Pryor took advantage of an undisciplined and unprepared Miami defense in showing the nation that he and the Buckeyes have the talent and athleticism to beat the nation's best -- or at least better than other Heisman darling Jacory Harris. Pryor will have his team competing for a national championship throughout the season and it will all be on his shoulders.
-Philip Rossman-Reich, Rise Northwestern

* He's like Robinson except his stats aren't as good and he's not quite as fun to watch.  This week he combined for 346 yards and two TD's in Ohio State's win over Miami.
-Slim, Mizzourah

3) Kellen Moore (QB-Boise State) - 21.5 Points, 14.93%, 1 1st Place Vote
Last Week: Idle    Next Week: at Wyomingmoorevt

* The Broncos were idle Saturday and some have argued that James Madison's victory over Virginia Tech took away any respect Boise State had earned in last Monday's victory. I'm not buying it. It didn't help, but anybody who watched Moore and the Broncos last week knows this team is for real. Don't believe me? I'd bet they can line up with your team and probably come away with the victory. Playoff, anyone?
-Danny Hobrock, Xtra Point Football

* With the Broncos taking the week off, he simply got passed as a result of robinson's brilliance in back-to-back weeks. Of course, like boise's national championship hopes, moore's candidacy took a hit with Virginia tech's loss to mighty James Madison.
-Allen Kenney,  Blatant Homerism

* The Broncos had the weekend off after beating Virginia Tech last Monday night. Moore was good enough in that win to stay put for now, but VT losing to James Madison certainly downplays Boise's win and Moore's performance a tad bit.
-Cody Strahm, Phins Focus

4) Ryan Mallet (QB-Arkansas) - 7.5 Points, 5.21%, 0 1st Place Votes
Last Week: 28/43, 400 yards, 3 TD, 1 INT   Next Week: at Georgia
201005ryan-mallett
* Hardly played past halftime and still completed 28 of 43 for 400 yards and 3 TDs, and ran another, in Arkansas' win over La-Monroe. He'll have his chance to truly put his stamp on the Heisman race this weekend when Arkansas travels to Georgia.
-Mark Ennis, Collision Course

* Mallett has been on fire thus far in 2010, albeit against very weak competition. He appears to have taken the next step and is completing 73.1% of his passes and already has 700 yards passing.
-Kris Brauner, Saturday Night Slant

5) Marcus Lattimore (RB-South Carolina) - 4 Points, 2.78%, 0 1st Place Votes
Last Week: 37 rush, 182 yards, 2TD    Next Week: vs. Furmansouthern_miss_south_carolina_football--1340392589_v2.hmedium

* Lattimore rushed 37 times for 182 yards as the Gamecocks showed they could be for real while shutting down Georgia. I have no doubt Steve Spurrier will screw this up by throwing the ball too much.
-Phil Shie, Eye and Eer Blog

* Lattimore has come on to the scene in a big way this week. He racked up 182 yards on 37 carries against Georgia and also scored twice. Although a long shot candidate, Lattimore plays in the SEC and is clearly the most important athlete on his nationally ranked team. If Lattimore goes down, look for the Gamecocks to follow.
-KGG, Subway Domer

Also Receiving Votes - Case Keenum (QB-Houston) 3.5 pts. Kendall Hunter (RB-OkSt) 2.5.  Landry Jones (QB-OU) 2 pts.  Andrew Luck (QB-Stan), Daniel Thomas (RB-Kansas State), Ryan Broyles (WR-OU), Matt Barkley (QB-USC), Trent Richardson (RB-Alabama) 1 point.

New This Week: Lattimore (5th), Broyles, Barkley, Richardson

Dropped Out: Mark Ingram (RB-Bama), Jake Locker (QB-Wash), Michael Floyd (WR-ND), Greg McElroy (QB-Bama), Tyrod Taylor (QB-VT), Christian Ponder (QB-FSU), TJ Yates (QB-UNC), DeMarco Murray (RB-OU), Patrick Peterson (CB-LSU), Jacory Harris (QB-Mia), Jon Clay (RB-Wisc),

Poll Notes
-A staggering 11 players dropped completely out of the poll this week!  The biggest droppers were Patrick Peterson and DeMarco Murray, who each fell from 4.67% completely out.
-Biggest Loser - Kellen Moore.  With a bye, his support shrunk in half from 28% to 14%. Runner up - Mark Ingram.  The reigning Heisman winner has plummeted from 20% preseason to 0 votes after missing the first 2 weeks due to injury.
-Beating Notre Dame might not be what it once was, but 502 yards in South Bend for Denard Robinson saw him skyrocket from 6% to 41.67% - a season high in the BHP and the biggest lead of the season, 15.28%.  He also received 17/24 1st place votes.
-Robinson, Pryor, and Moore are a breakaway threesome this week.  They account for 81.44% of the vote and they appeared 1-2-3 in some order on 11 of 24 ballots.  Robinson was left off 1 ballot, our own Brandon Yohey.  Pryor was left off 6 and Moore 10.  No player has appeared on 100% of ballots in a week as of yet.
-Qklahoma (Murray, Broyles, Jones) and Alabama (Ingram, McElroy, Richardson) have each had 3 players appear in the poll.
-Houston QB Case Keenum appeared on only 2 ballots - and received the remaining first place vote this week, even after not throwing for a TD pass.
-No defensive players survive and only 1 non QB/RB appears, Ryan Broyles of Oklahoma.
-QBs went from just over 75% of the vote to an astounding 93.4%.
